Area Manager

Position Description

Walmart is looking for a high potential candidate to grow and develop into a senior leader within Walmart eCommerce Operations. Simply put, this program is designed to challenge your analytic prowess, develop you as a leader and provide you the opportunity to lead at scale.

The program’s structure is such that you will spend approximately 6 – 8 months as an Area Manager within our FC Sortable Operations. In this role you will run a single department within our operations and learn how to lead teams of 30-50 associates using one of our founding principles, respect for the individual. You will also be challenged to utilize your analytic skillset by developing statistical tools to increase service to the customer and strive for excellence.

Once you have demonstrated fluency in running a single department, effectively leading with people first, and working well with your peers, you will transition to the Operations Manager role. This is truly a leader of leaders position, with a scope of 4-6 Area Managers that directly report to you, 200-400 associates that indirectly report to you, and you will have ultimate responsibility for delivering to the customer. During this time, you will be challenged to develop an ability to increase your influence, not directly to your Area Managers, but indirectly to your peers and your associates.

After successfully completing an approximate 12 month role as an Operations Manager, you will be given the opportunity to take on a larger role within our FC operations as Senior Operations Manager. Here you will potentially have 4-6 Operations Managers, 25-40 Area Managers and 500-1,000 associates reporting up through your organization. You truly will be responsible for a very large area of our operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an MBA program.
  • Bachelor's Degree in business or a related field (e.g., Engineering, Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Financial Management, Production/Operations Management); and 1 year experience in an operations/distribution/logistics/retail environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees for multiple departments / areas OR 1 year experience as a Walmart Logistics Area Manager supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing associates; managing associate workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of associates OR 3 years experience in an operations/distribution/logistics/retail environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors; managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees for multiple departments / areas

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrate your ability to utilize data to make sound decisions.
  • 1 year experience managing budgets, managing P&L, developing manpower forecasts, and analyzing financial/operational data
  • Both Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Financial Management, Production/Operations Management); and 3 years experience in an operations/distribution/logistics environment, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing employees, managing workload; and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees
