This opportunity is linked to Tri-College on-campus interviews at Bryn Mawr College on February 28.

Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania - Scheie Eye Institute

Positions are available at the Scheie Eye Institute in both our research department and in the clinic with ophthalmologists.

Clinical Research:

As a Clinical Research Coordinator, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting in conducting clinical trials, maintaining study compliance, providing patient care, assisting physicians and study coordinators with study procedures and treatments, coordinating data collecting, disseminating patient protocol information, recruiting patients, monitoring protocol adherence, maintaining research files, while ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).  As part of this research team, you will work both independently and collaboratively with other research coordinators and physicians in several subspecialties, including retina, glaucoma, cornea, and comprehensive ophthalmology. You will serve as primary coordinator for several research protocols, each led by different Principal Investigators within the department.

This position offers great opportunities for patient contact, beginning with the research consenting process. Research coordinators also have the opportunity to learn clinical skills such as phlebotomy and ocular imaging techniques. This position requires attention to detail and self-motivation, as you are required to maintain the organization of study data while ensuring patients’ needs are met. Depending on demonstrated experience and enthusiasm, candidates will also have the opportunity to participate in data analysis and manuscript writing for research projects. We are looking for a team player with a passion for patient care to join our physicians, research coordinators and students in leading and executing our clinical trials.

The scribe documents results of the external exam, anterior segment exam, posterior segment exam, fluorescein angiography, laser, ocular injection treatments, minor surgical procedures, and physician findings.

You may be asked to maintain patient flow, directing the physician to the next examination room, ensuring the correct sequence of events occurs for each patient, designated through EPIC patient charts, throughout the workflow of the patient’s exam. You may be assigned to act as a facilitator to patients as they arrive at each location ensuring the patient is directed to the correct area for ancillary testing prior to a physician visit or escort the patient to the various locations within a department when necessary. Hours vary and are dependent on the physician you work with. The department works individually with each scribe to develop a schedule which is amenable and beneficial to both parties.
